Why We Exist

This is the same Chicago region. But your zip code can erase 20–30 years of your life.

That’s not personal failure, that’s structural failure. And it’s exactly why we exist.

Data sourced from the CDC PLACES project, Chicago Department of Public Health, Cook County Department of Public Health, and Will County Community Health Assessments.

Most families aren’t struggling because they “made bad choices.” They’re struggling because the world is structured to keep certain people stuck.

Education tied to your ZIP code.

Healthcare that can bankrupt you overnight.

A tax system that protects wealth while workers carry the load.

A prison system that punishes poverty more than crime.

A military that leans on the poor and shields the privileged.

Jobs that don’t match the cost of living.

Bills that rise faster than wages.

A society that tells you to “work harder” while pulling the ladder up behind the people who already made it.

People aren’t failing. They’re being failed by systems that were never built for them to climb.

The Rise Up Initiative exists to meet families at the exact moment those systems collapse beneath them, and to shine a light on the structures designed to keep communities broke, sick, and divided. We show up when the system won’t.

What We Do

We’re not here to fix every problem. We’re here to catch the one thing that could pull a family under. Maybe it’s a utility about to shut off. Maybe it’s a repair that’s putting a family at risk. Maybe it’s a medical bill, a broken car, a lost paycheck or something too personal to put on display.

Whatever it is, we step in with dignity, not judgment. Because people aren’t failing the systems are. We pay into structures our whole lives only to watch them break the moment we need them.

The Rise Up Foundation exists to push back on that. To lift families in the exact moment the world drops them and to rise together in spite of the systems built to hold us in place.

Why give?

  • Because a small repair can stop a family from losing their home. What seems minor to you can be life changing for them. Stability starts with one act of help.

  • Because some families are doing everything right and still drowning. Your support gives them the breathing room systems don’t. Compassion fills the gaps bureaucracy leaves behind.

  • Because kids deserve a safe, functional place to grow up. A repaired door, working heat, or running water changes their entire world. You’re giving them dignity, not charity.

  • Because emergencies don’t wait for savings accounts. One unexpected crisis can break a family. Your gift gives them a soft landing when life hits hard.

  • Because community is built, not wished for. When you give, you’re actively shaping the kind of world you want to live in. Strong neighborhoods start with people who care.

  • Because no one should fight alone. Your help tells a struggling family, “You matter. We see you.” And that feeling is powerful.
